To our valued partners and friends,
In 2019, the Rauch Family Foundation adopted a set of focus areas to help define our grant-making and provide a framework for decision-making rooted in the desire to fund cost-effective, evidence-based, and transformational projects, programs, and organizations.
In 2022, we undertook a review of these focus areas to focus our learning, increase the impact of our community investments, and develop areas of expertise unified under an approved strategic mission.
In 2024, we approved and adopted a mission statement that we hope will serve as our philanthropic compass and our guide, holding us on a steady course of accountability, in service of supporting some of the world’s most underserved and underrepresented communities.
The new mission statement of the Rauch Family Foundation is:
We seek to improve the health outcomes of vulnerable populations in the Inland Empire of California and across the developing world.
To achieve this, we support programs that are transformational, evidence-based, and cost-effective across three primary areas:
Health and Health Equity in the Inland Empire region of California
Global Health
Disaster Relief & Preparedness
In adopting this mission statement some of the existing focus areas of the foundation have changed. Our former focus areas were:
Homelessness
Health and Medical Education
Global Health
Disaster Relief
Other (Arts/Food Security/Local Social Services)
In reviewing the work of our grantees and to better align our current initiatives with our new mission statement, we have updated our focus areas as follows:
Health and Health Equity
Supporting communities based in the Inland Empire region of California via longitudinal investments in workforce development and retention, access to services, and social determinants of health working across the following five categories:
Child Welfare
Education Access
Healthcare Access & Quality
Nutritious Food & Physical Activity
Safe Housing
Global Health
Supporting communities across the developing world, with the work focused on the reduction and prevention of infectious diseases and nutrition programs, exploring effective altruism, pilot projects, and long-term community involvement.
Disaster Relief and Preparedness
Supporting communities around the world, especially those who have less exposure in popular media, through focused investments in preparedness, capacity building, and recovery, as well as maintaining funds to respond to disasters as needed.
Discretionary (The Arts/other)
Supporting important legacy organizations to the Foundation’s founders, as well as a small number of other Inland Empire region organizations working with underserved and underrepresented communities.
We are further refining our approach in each focus area by developing theories of change that set us on course for effective learning and future impacts. We are excited to work with our partners and communities to strengthen our present and build a better future together for all.
We welcome any thoughts, comments, and questions you might have regarding these changes. Please reach out to Heather L. Porter, Senior Program & Operations Manager: hporter@therauchfamilyfoundation.org.
